HFM Has Moved!

Welcome to the new home of Healing Frequencies Music! (AKA... HFM) We are located in Lewiston, Idaho and have twice the space. In this article, we'll take a walk down memory lane and explore how that's changed my path for the future...

If you've been with me for a while, you'll know that I moved to Oldtown, Idaho in January of 2019 after the Idaho Transportation Department relocated those in our neighborhood as they began building a new highway south of Moscow (Idaho). At the time, it felt weird and unsettling but as you've seen on this site, it's all about perspective and staying in an attitude of gratitude even when things appear uncertain, grim, or not pleasant. How you leave one season goes with you into the next.

In 2023, a year after retiring from teaching in Spokane, I felt that I'd be moving again. During that time I needed a few additional mindset shifts and, for things to shift into the right timing. Honestly, I hoped it would have occurred much sooner than it did. However, had it been sooner, I'd not be in the home or location that I was meant to be. Things work out for a reason and it helped me to learn a bit more about patience.

In January of 2025, I was asked by Dave Bjur, to bring my recording equipment to an audio engineering conference to be held at the University of Idaho in Moscow. You may remember that Dave was the audio engineer who recorded my first eleven albums at Washington State University. Now retired, he was embarking on his own new journey. We had worked together on a previous "location" recording project so it only seemed natural that I'd assist with his recording workshop.

The long story short in this adventure is that we decided to open a recording studio together in Lewiston, Idaho once my house in Oldtown sold. The story of how that came about is quite interesting and will be saved for another time. Moving along.... I attended the conference and learned a lot about the art of audio recording using the equipment I'd purchased at Dave's suggestion in 2020 once the Washington State University studio was no longer available to me.

In the fall of 2025, my house sold and I found the perfect home in Lewiston, Idaho (near Dave). I moved on November 7, 2025 and have spent the last five months unpacking and setting up the new studio. Dave's wife, Audrey, joined with us in helping me establish creative ideas and doing general administrative work for Dave since he's the audio engineer for the studio. The new home has a full basement that's dedicated to all music making and has twice as much space as my home in Oldtown. Three sides of the house are surrounded by concrete and dirt. The back portion is accessible as a daylight basement entry that faces the back yard and wooded area. It's quiet, private, and perfect for a recording studio and music making!

Kryoton Studios is the official name of the recording studio. One end of the studio has the sound bath area setup and I finally have a "wall of gongs" so they can all be out and used whenever I want.

Many people have already asked how the studio got its name. "Kryoton" refers to light and to me, music is meant to create a atmosphere of light within the spirit, soul, and body so that we can walk in complete wholeness. There's a short description at the bottom of the home page that provides a bit more information concerning the studio name.

Kryoton Studios is multi-functioning space. In Oldtown, I did what space in the home and community allowed. Lewiston is a much larger town with close proximity to Clarkston, Washington, Pullman, Washington, and Moscow, Idaho. The Snake river divides Clarkston from Lewiston. Because the area is larger, there's more opportunities and the weather is nicer because Lewiston is a port city and is at a much lower elevation. If you want more snow, head up the hill to Moscow or Pullman. Milder weather allows us to hold events year around without major weather issues.

At Kryoton Studios, we can do the following:

  • Record soloists and small ensembles on site
  • Do location recordings in Moscow, Pullman, Lewiston, Clarkston and surrounding areas
  • Create professional quality  recordings for anyone who uses the studio, Healing Frequencies Music, and the Mystic Frequency Collaborative
  • Hold retreats on-site and have access to hotels and restaurants close by (which wasn't possible in Oldtown)
  • Hold recording workshops and classes
  • House people as needed who come for training, classes, workshops, etc.
  • On-site sound baths for a small group of people
  • Provides the perfect space for those in the Frequency Immersion Practitioner training program.
  • Local drum circles in a park only one block from the house!

The new studio space allows for more versatility than my space in Oldtown. The gong wall is a favorite for all who visit. After only five months of being in Lewiston, we already have several recording sessions on the books, one retreat scheduled, and are planning future workshops and classes.

Dave has worked closely with many of the world's leading audio engineers and has developed a recording method that's more rehearsal-like in a natural setting.

You can read about the studio philosophy on the Kryoton Studios website. In a nutshell, we want to provide a peaceful and pleasant environment for musicians to record their music that feels like a natural setting, not a rigid recording studio "feel." There is no dedicated control room, we have the ability to move equipment around, and all the musicians work in the same room (not in isolation booths) where they can flow and respond to each other in real time without the need to do a lot of overdubbing. This leads to a more organic recording that's full of creativity as musicians respond to one another during a session.

Our first recording event in March of 2026 involved several jazz musicians (including Dave) who worked closely with Wes Dooley (the inventer of the AEA microphones) to begin the recording setup process. You'll see that session in the gallery photos on the Kryoton Studios website. As more recording sessions and events happen on site, those pictures will be uploaded to the gallery page on the website.

In looking at the future, I'm amazed at how quickly things are coming together. When something is meant to be, forward motion isn't far away. But I must state that it's important to stay positive and be in "an attitude of gratitude." Because of my past experiences, I've learned the importance of pushing past the negative stuff that attempts to gain control of my emotions. Fear stops all forward motion and progress. You simply can't cuddle up with negative thinking when you want to move forward!

Not everything was great before, during, or after the move. The muffler fell on my truck the day before I moved, the moving company had some major issues that cost me double what they quoted, things are breaking all at once in the new house, etc. There were many roadblocks along the way and situations haven't been smooth sailing. The house is older and things need to be replaced. Some of them more major than others. That being said... this house waited for me to buy it and now it's my turn to steward it and make it beautiful again. It's with great joy that I take on and welcome the new and exciting changes needed to create a space for people to come and make music, soak in healing frequencies, and bask in peace and rest whether they're here for a recording session, workshop, retreat, sound bath, etc.

Kryoton Studios may be the next adventure in my life but it won't be the last. It's an opportunity to bring people together in a variety of ways that were not possible in the last two places that I lived. Yes, I loved my home in Moscow but at that time, I wasn't ready to move forward with the recording adventures. I was too new to the idea of recording healing music at the time.

As with all things in life, it takes time to marinate in new ideas and experiences so you can make them your own. We do best when we experience before showing others a path forward. For me, this is another "Y" in the road to the music making I've done my entire life.

CONCLUSION

This article began as an introduction to Kryoton Studios after I decided in 2023 that another move was in the future. At that time, I wasn't even thinking of moving but a still small voice coming from my intuition indicated that the time was coming and that I needed to prepare.

If I have to think about it, the road for this move was both easier and more difficult than the move further north from Moscow to Oldtown in 2019. What's the difference? I'm more at peace now than I was in 2019. I understand that even in times of struggle, you can always find something to be grateful for. When I tell people that I lost my home to eminent domain in 2019, they get this look of horror on their face. I simply state that something good came out of it. Had I not had a good attitude about the entire process, I might have ended up like some of my neighbors. It's never good to be bitter or angry about anything. If you've read previous articles, you'll learn that anger, fear, frustatration, and their negative cuddle buddies generally settle in your body as "dis-ease" and can wreak havoc within your system.

Prior to 2019, I sort of understand the gravity of the power of intention. When we stay in an attitude of gratitude, even the impossible things feel more possible. And, the door tends to open quicker for forward motion. How did this work for me? I got a better house in Oldtown than my Moscow house and nearly paid cash for the new house in Lewiston. That's a huge win and now I get the opportunity to make my new place something better than it was in the beginning. Stay tuned for more posts in the future about the process!
